TWEETS OVERSHADOW ROBINSON’S DREAM DAY

Ollie Robinson the English All rounder makes it to the headlines for his off field activities. During the ongoing England vs New Zealand series Ollie Robinson was handed his test debut cap.

Massive success over the past couple of years for Sussex in the county champion got him named in the playing XI. On his debut for England he picked up Tom Latham as his maiden test wicket and went on to have 7 wickets in total on his debut game at the Home of Cricket.

Chains of racist and sexist tweets that Ollie Robinson had put out in his mid/late teens caught eyeballs. The media grabbed site and in no time there was a negative image of the debut man. Post the completion of play on Day 1 he came out to the press and apologized for his offensive tweets.

The offensive tweets were put out 10 years ago when he was a teenager, there’s a huge difference in mindset. Past 5 years of his career as a professional player were to be celebrated wherein he’s been a changed individual with a lot of maturity.

ECB have taken incharge and have said to investigate the matter and until the investigation is over he has been suspended from International Cricket but is allowed to play county cricket. The past couple of days there has been some support coming in for Robinson be it from the Prime Minister or few other officials. Few current and past players who have played the sport have been in support for Ollie Robinson. The social media is split on their opinions.

ECB are one among the top cricketing boards and eyes will be on them to see how they deal with this matter and what example will be set out to other cricketing boards. There will be a lot more on this and won’t be wrong to expect many more names out during the investigation be it from the English camp or any other cricketing board as such comments or tweets have sparked in the media previously but didn’t catch fire.
