Sri Lankan cricket team are currently in England for the ongoing England vs Sri Lanka whiteball series. Three players involved on this tour have been sent back home mid series accepting to have breached the bio bubble.
A video surfaced on social media was shoot by a Sri Lankan fan wherein the suspended trio namely Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka were seen on the streets which were beyond the bio bubble boundaries.
Minutes after the video had caught the limelight there was a statement issued by the ECB that the trio will be sent back home. Next morning a report came in from Sri Lanka which claims that the trio might face an year suspension.
Team manager, Manuja Kariapperuma enquired the players involved and stated to a source in colombo that the trio had stepped out for a walk and also to get some takeaway parcel from a nearby place. He also stated all players were advised not to go beyond the city center but that was ignored. The players were out for 2-3 hours.
There were reports stating that Kusal Mendis the vice captain of the team was set to be dropped from the ODI’s even before the Sunday bubble breach incident took place. Selectors and coach had taken the decision immediately after three consecutive T20I defeat. Further there was a statement that read, Mendis was warned several times before awarding him with the vice captaincy role. He was informed to be humble, set an example to the youngsters and also was informed to maintain a low profile. Despite being informed he was constantly active on social media platforms and was then decided to be dropped. The information was yet to be conveyed to Mendis but the bubble breach incident had him suspended.
RT-PCR report of the trio had come negative post they retuned to colombo on tuesday afternoon and are currently serving 10 day isolation and then the SLC will set an enquiry on the players and the players are likely to request the board to be lenient on announcing punishment.
