India’s Olympic events commenced today with Women’s Archery individual event followed by the Men’s Archery individual event.
5:30 AM, IST : Deepika Kumari started off a bit slow but paced up as she was ranked in the top 5 at halfway stage of the event. She later dropped in the ranking to 14 with a disappointing round 4 but recovered well and finished decent. Her good outing in the first half saw her end with 663 points and was seeded 9th, she will take on Bhutan’s Karma who was seeded 54th with 616 points. There will be no Women’s team event as Deepika Kumari is the only Indian women Archer in the competition. Koreans had a memorable outing as they bagged the top 3 seedings and An. San who finished first on the list with 680 set the new record.

9:30 AM, IST : After Women’s outing it was time for Men’s Archery event and Indian trio namely Pravin Jadhav, Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai took field. They were the experienced contenders but failed to create impact and looked bit ordinary on display. Pravin Jadhav finished 1st among the trio with 656 points and was seeded 31st in the rankings. Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai gained 653 and 652 points respectively and were ranked 35th and 37th. India is ranked 9th with 1961 points for the men’s Archery team event. Korean continue their dream day at Olympics as in Men’s Archery individual event J.D Kim was ranked 1st with 688 points.

Mixed team event Deepika Kumari will pair with Pravin Jadhav, top scorers of the day will represent India for the mixed Archery event. In mixed team event India is ranked 9th with 1319 points.
That was all India had on schedule today and tomorrow will be a big day as India will be part of 4 medal events, 2 shooting events (women’s 10m air rifle and men’s 10m air pistol), women 49 kg weightlifting final and mixed Archery event apart from that there are a few more events lined up for tomorrow.
