Weeks after India witnessed it’s most successful Olympics campaign at Tokyo it’s now time for Paralympics. India’s biggest-ever Paralympics contingent of 54 athletes will be in action competing across nine sporting events starting tomorrow till the 5th of September.
An unfortunate start to India’s Paralympics campaign as hours before the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympics 6 Indian para athletes enter isolation after a close contact tested positive. However, none of them have tested positive in the past 6 days and are likely to be available for the games. There is nothing more on this for now, they are put in isolation until further notice.
High jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu is replaced by Javelin thrower Tek Chand as India’s flag-bearer for the Paralympics opening ceremony as he along with 5 others was a close contact, so he’s moved into isolated. (precautionary)
India tomorrow will begin their Paralympics campaign with Table Tennis, paddlers Sonalben Madhubhai Patel in group D (womens singles class 3) and Bhavina Hasmukhbhai Patel in group A (womens single class 4) will be in action in Individual category.
