Women’s Cricket over the past few years hasn’t failed to deliver contests that attract audience, the quality of the games have presented an upward graph and this had fans raise voices demanding expansion of women’s cricket and these voices have finally been answered with International Cricket Council (ICC) announcing a few major developments. The recently conclude, Women’s ODI World Cup was by far the best cricketing event in women’s cricket after real long, the close games mirrored a picture that women’s cricket is at a whole new level now and it’s growth demands expansion.
What’s new is, the International Cricket Council (ICC) have handed One-Day International (ODI) status for five associate nations with immediate effect that include United States of America (USA), Netherlands, Thailand, Papua New Guinea and Scotland. Earned status will now help these nations make an positive impact on their ODI rankings and also will count towards their qualification for the 2025 World Cup.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had successfully conducted two editions of ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) in 2014-17 and 2017-20. It’s now time for it’s third edition stretching from 2022-25 and it’s got a bonus with Bangladesh and Ireland in the mix that increases the pre existing sides from 8 to 10.
How it works is, each team will play eight three-match series (four home and four away) over the next three years. At the end of the cycle, the top five teams and the hosts directly have a berth for the World Cup in 2025, while the rest of the teams will have to go through the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
The ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 will be underway on 1st of June with Sri Lanka playing three ODI games v hosts, Pakistan.
